TEACHING GAMES FOR UNDERSTANDING OBJECTIVES

Objectives are vital in outlining what must be achieved to be competent. Objective can help students to measure their success. Therefore, here are some suggestion for achieving any objectives:

Group Activity
·          Come up with an activity before class. This activity should contain clear objectives leading to activity completion. For example, the task of writing a short story should include clearly defined objectives that lead to a good story. These objectives might include coming up with a good character, placing him in a situation, facing him with a problem and finding a solution. Bring the activity into class and ask the students to form groups. Assign the task to each group. Each group should help one another to complete individual objectives step by step. The first group to complete the challenge successfully should be rewarded.
Objective Journal
·                Ask students to keep an "objective journal." This journal should be used as a way for students to keep track of personal objectives, ensuring that they are met successfully. For example, if your students have been asked to read Agatha Christie's collection of "Miss Marple" by the end of the term, this journal should be used to keep track of each student's reading accomplishments. Each novel should be taken as an objective. Students should use the journal to break down objectives and structured activities that they are faced with throughout the year. Encourage students to use the journals as much as possible.
Objective Collage
·         Ask each student to create an "objective collage" of his own. On paper or canvas, challenge students to illustrate the objectives that they wish to meet throughout the school year themselves. These collages should prompt students to meet their objectives effectively and enthusiastically. The objectives that are illustrated should be dependent on the student and can include objectives spanning over the year, their student careers or longer. The collages should be put on the wall to inspire students to work toward their chosen objectives.
Personal Letter
·            Writing a personal letter can be a fun and effective objective-setting activity for students to be a part of in the classroom. At the beginning of term, ask each student to write a letter explaining the goals and objectives that they wish to achieve by the end of the year. These objectives don’t necessarily have to be related to the classroom. They can be home-oriented, too. At the end of the year, letters should be revealed for the first time since being written. Challenge students to find objectives that they managed to meet throughout the school year.

WHAT IS EDUCATION?

Education or teaching in the broadest sense is any actor experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character or physical ability of an individual. In its technical sense education is the process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, skills and values from one generation to another.

Education creates opportunities and choices for people to develop themselves to be better everyday. Thus, education reduces the twin burdens of poverty and diseases because people know how to seek for money and to find cure. Also, education gives a stronger voice in society as people talk based on fact and not emotionally. Moreover, education can lead to dynamic workforce and well-informed citizens able to compete and cooperate globally. PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
Source: http://www.wikipedia.org/

Idealism

Plato

Inscribed herma of Plato. (BerlinAltes Museum).
Date: 424/423 BC - 348/347 BC
Plato's educational philosophy was grounded in his vision of the ideal Republic, wherein theindividual was best served by being subordinated to a just society. He advocated removing children from their mothers' care and raising them as wards of the state, with great care being taken to differentiate children suitable to the various castes, the highest receiving the most education, so that they could act as guardians of the city and care for the less able. Education would be holistic, including facts, skills, physical discipline, and music and art, which he considered the highest form of endeavor.
Plato believed that talent was distributed non-genetically and thus must be found in children born in any social class. He builds on this by insisting that those suitably gifted are to be trained by the state so that they may be qualified to assume the role of a ruling class. What this establishes is essentially a system of selective public education premised on the assumption that an educated minority of the population are, by virtue of their education (and inborn educability), sufficient for healthy governance.
Plato's writings contain some of the following ideas: Elementary education would be confined to the guardian class till the age of 18, followed by two years of compulsory military training and then by higher education for those who qualified. While elementary education made the soul responsive to the environment, higher education helped the soul to search for truth which illuminated it. Both boys and girls got the same kind of education. Elementary education consisted of music and gymnastics, designed to train and blend gentle and fierce qualities in the individual and create a harmonious person.
At the age of 20, a selection was made. The best one would take an advanced course in mathematics, geometry, astronomy and harmonics. The first course in the scheme of higher education would last for ten years. It would be for those who had a flair for science. At the age of 30 there would be another selection; those who qualified would study dialectics and metaphysicslogic and philosophy for the next five years. They would study the idea of good and first principles of being. After accepting junior positions in the army for 15 years, a man would have completed his theoretical and practical education by the age of 50.

WHAT IS YOUR LIFE PURPOSE?

Lets share your thought and leave a comment after reading this article...

Every day we will face two things in our life; First, something that we like to do. Second, something that we should or must do. Generally, what we need to do usually we neglect to do it... So, lets discover your life purpose that need to be clear and focus. Hence, you will know what to do in this world...

Lets go back to the question. "What is your life purpose?"

Basically, there are three most famous answers:

  1. Some people said that our life is to fulfill five basic needs or five pillars (eat, drink, sleep, rest, and get married/sex). If your answer is this, beware that you are just as same as LIVESTOCK! Just imagine a cow's daily life. Everyday, it wakes up the morning mooing and go to the field to eat grass and drinks water. In the afternoon, it sits down under a tree and rest while chewing the grass. Thus, in certain time they will find their partner for sex. At night, it will go to sleep. The routine will continue until the cow dies.
  2. In other case, several people want to be famous in their life... It is not wrong. But if you put aside and forget others who help you to become famous, then it is wrong. If you choose this answer, remember that you just as same as tress in the jungle. They fight each other to be the tallest in order to get the sun. Thus, not all famous people have a happy life. Some involve in drug, alcohol, and illegal sex.
  3. Lastly, certain people want to gain power and authority. They want to manipulate others with their position and gain wealth. Be careful if this is your answer...You are just as same as wild animal. For instance, a lion will mark it territory with the urine. If other lions try to take over the territory, they will fight each other until one side badly wound or die.

SO, WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE OF LIFE???

THE PROS AND CONS OF GETTING AN OVERSEAS EDUCATION

Nowadays, many students got scholarship and study overseas. Thus, the number of Malaysian students in institutions of higher education in the United States for the period 2009/2010 increased by 4.2 percent to 6.190 from 5.942 in the previous years. This movement of getting an overseas education ought to be analyzed the pros and cons of the issues. The pros are world class academic system and infrastructure, working experience, improve foreign language, and learn new culture. Despite that, the cons are influenced by negative thinking style and lifestyle, not able to be independent, cost a lot of money and energy, and cheated by native.
First and foremost, the students who study overseas will be exposed to world class academic system and infrastructure. For sure their quality of teaching and learning has a very high standard. In addition, most of the text books are from overseas and many authentic academic materials are produced in U.K and U.S.A. Therefore, the students can have easy access to get many genuine materials. Thus, they can read the book in their original language. For example, the legend medicine book, At-Tibb, which written by Ibnu Sina is in Arabic.
Second, one of the advantages of learning overseas is the students can get real life working experience during spare time at the foreign country. Consequently, it will give added values to them in many ways. Despite getting extra money, they can learn new skills such as dealing with clients and know how to treat them appropriately. Thus, those who work at restaurant can learn how to make native meal and traditional food.
Third, the students can improve their foreign language skills. The native speakers are everywhere. Thus, language is for us to use, not to keep it in the mouth. Nevertheless, the students do not have any choice but to speak in the foreign language in daily chat such as buying goods at groceries shop or any market. In such situation, the students can master their foreign language rapidly and built up their confident to converse comfortably with others native speaker.
Forth, in new places, we can learn new culture and break the cultural encapsulation among foreigners. Therefore, the students can grab this opportunity while studying at overseas. Hence, it will help us to open our mind and built mutual respect on others who have different values in life. Nevertheless, it can enhance diplomatic relationship between various countries. For instance, Malaysian students can learn Chinese culture of business. In addition, the entire gap between cultures will be lessened and no prejudice and stereotype towards others on sensitive issues such as apartheid in South East Africa.
Furthermore, the con of getting an overseas education is mainly about the influence of negative thinking style and lifestyle. In Malaysia, we called it as ‘budaya kuning’ which describe the negative influence from west such as punk head, sexy outfit, and mocking. Some country like USA use harsh word in their colloquial language such ‘fuck you’ and ‘shit’. Thus, they call their parents with names rather than address them properly. Also, alcohol is amiable and people can buy it everywhere. The clubbing lifestyle and too many parties are not suitable for Islamic religion and eastern culture. Despite that, they are also tolerable with gay and lesbian lifestyles which are legally right in their country. Most of the time, they make decision based on logical sense and beyond than our norm.
Next, some students are weak self and not able to be independent when they live abroad. For many years they live with their parents and after finished O-Level they went overseas with low maturity. When they live alone by themselves, some do not know how to get along with new people and strangers. And this make them become passive. Also, they are weak in managing their financial plan. So, they waste their money recklessly without saving for years ahead. When they broke, they tend to borrow money from friends. Moreover, they are easily being influence by their friends and most of the time they loiter at shopping complex or other places.
Furthermore, studying overseas is costing a lot of money and energy. There are many payments and bills that we need to consider. For instance, the flight ticket cost you thousands of Ringgit. If you book a ticket to Jordan, it will cost you approximately RM 2,000 for one way ticket. Thus, the university’s fees are also expensive. I addition, you need to pay for rent house or hostel for your accommodation there. The most basic part is to spend money for food and drinks. Thus, academic books and study materials need to be put into account. On the other hand, we need to pay for public transport to travel to classes.
Lastly, some students can easily being cheated by the natives. Most of the cases are because they do not have money to survive out of the country and tend to find easy money by doing part time job. Unfortunately, they were cheated and involved in criminal. For example, previously there was a genius female student from Malaysia who studied in UK was desperate to get money and she involved in prostitution.
As conclusion, there are pros and cons of getting an overseas education. The students need to be analytical in making decision before continuing their study in a foreign country.  As preparation, it is recommended to ask people who have been studied abroad to seek for their experiences and tips on how to adopt and adapt with different academic environment.
